Kallang Open
Hi people. We will be having our FIRST Kallang Open Competition in a week’s time. For those who are not sure where the competition is going to be held. It will be at
KALLANG DIAMOND or
KALLANG FIELD. It is where the B and C Division finals are held.
The field is located between
STADIUM MRT and
MOUNTBATTEN MRT.
If you decide to alight at STADIUM MRT, walk through the carpark beside Kallang Leisure Park. Cross one traffic light and you will reach the field.
If you decide to alight at MOUNTBATTEN MRT, exit the station and you will find Old Airport Road in front. Turn left and cross the traffic light. Cut through the Mcdonalds and KFC restaurant. Beware of the traffic because there is a huge carpark at Mcdonalds and KFC. Finally cross the road and you will find yourself near a cricket field. Cut across the field and you will reach the softball field.
It is much easier to reach the field if you alight at
Stadium MRT. If you are afraid that you cannot find the place, please come early and explore.
There will be a total of three games to be played on 3rd March 2012.
The last game will be played on 4th Mar. Timing TBC pending on results for the 3th Mar games.
We are drafted to Group A alongside with SP and NTU
10.30am - NP against SP (Field A)
1pm - NP against NTU (Field B)
3.30pm - Qualifier 3th / 4th placing (Field B)
Players, please remember to bring your own water bottle to hydrate yourselves. Bring an umbrella as well in case of wet weather because there is really very little shade in the field. Also, we have to bring our own equipment so we will split up the load equally nearer to the date.
For those who are not playing, you are encouraged to come down be it supporting our team or watching other teams play.
Lastly, guys please do not be late. Neo will do what he has to do if you come late. If a match is scheduled at 10.30am, be there at
9.30am ready for warm-up and briefing.
Cheers,
Jasmine

Watch, Learn, Adapt
This is the second lesson that I am going to impart to my fellow softballers. It is called the mentality of a softball player. Always remember these 3 words. WATCH. LEARN. ADAPT.
In softball, always observe how your teammates throw, field, bat and run. The best way to improve is to WATCH how others play the game. Like any other sports, softball cannot simply be taught by a coach or having someone to correct your mistake. You have to make that extra effort to improve. Remember to ask when in doubt.
LEARN the right things from the right person. Take the advice from players with years of experience as they have been through years of vigorous trainings. Open up your mind and learn to take criticism. Sometimes things are said to spur you to work harder. If you can learn to be humble, you will set to achieve greater heights.
Lastly ADAPT. Softball is a fast moving and unpredictable game. Being able to adapt to the game allows you to be flexible in your thinking. You will be able to make split second decisions without having to think twice. Always remember that the ball game is dead and the players are alive. The ball won’t fly straight into your glove. You are supposed to move for the ball and not the ball to move for you. For example in soccer, there is man-to-man marking and area marking. If you use area marking into softball, as long as the ball is within your boundary, make that effort to cover your area and make sure the ball doesn’t pass you.
Put these 3 words into good use and you will improve your game.

SP Game SP Game SP Game!!!
This is the game all of guys have been waiting for. The great SP-NP rivalry has been rekindle. Even though this is a friendly game, i want all of you to put in your 100% effort. For starters, i want you to take this chance to learn as much as possible and gain experience from this game. For experienced players, this is the time where i want you to lead the team and set a good example for the beginners to learn.
Learn from your previous game, do not make the same mistakes as before. Motivate one another and make noise in the field. This is the best way to keep the spirit up throughout the whole game. Go for the easy plays. Dont let one mistake hold you down. The moment you make a mistake, quickly recover from it. Shake it off and think how to make the next out.
Final note: Please make sure that you have at least 7 hours of undisturbed rest and hydrate yourself sufficiently the night before. Take good care of yourself because it seems like its going to be another rainy season.
This is Neo signing off.

First Valuable Lesson
During last wednesday's friendly, my coach told me something before the game that struck my mind. It really applies to our club. "Make do with what you have now" he said. For those who are late, you would most probably missed this part. But with just that simple sentence, it resonates in my thought.
For those who feels that our equipment is inadequate, i do feel this way too. But that shouldnt be the reason why you are not attending trainings or not performing to standard. If you can make do with what we have, trainings can be just as fun. It is the people that makes the difference not the equipment. I will do my best to stock up the equipment.
Speaking of people, I understand that most of the time we do not have enough peeps for training. For those with the mentality that since there is so few members playing and therefore I'm not coming to train. I hope I can change your mindset. If you wish to continue contributing to the MIA list, I would suggest that a reasonable explanation is given else as i said before, the impression counts. On the other hand, with the "make do with what you have" attitude, i believe that trainings will be more special if you can think in this manner.
This is your President signing off.

New Direction
First of all let me announce the new committee for NP Softball club.
President - Neo Yuan (myself)
Vice President - Xavier Toh
Secretary - Brandon Tay
Treasurer - Jesper Tan
Quartermaster - Leslie Lee
Captain - Jeremy Yeo
Vice Captain - Catherine Kwa
As this is a brand new committee, please be patient towards us and we hope to live up to our expectations.
I may have missed out on some points during AGM therefore I am editing it here. Its abit long winded so just bear with it.
This is for those who missed out on the AGM. I have a lot of goals and expectations for the club. I hope everyone would have the same vision as me. Right now there are many shortcomings in this club and I wished to correct it. If I were to shout at you during games, trainings and etc, I hope you can understand what I am doing. This is for your own good. I want to make your stay in softball club a memorable 2-3 years in NP.
As the President of softball club, I do not develop players, I develop people’s character. From my observation, this club lacks in discipline, poor attitude, no teamwork and poor communication.
Discipline
Members should have the basic courtesy to inform the committee if they are unable to make it for training. If you were to quit softball, please approach me directly and no one else. If you do not have a valid reason to quit, I will not approve your request. You can quit on yourself, I will not quit on you.
I would like to point out a good example. On 19/12/11, only Jeremy, Dine and myself came to training. But it has been raining for the whole day. I would like to point out that Jeremy live in the east and yet he came all the way down to school hoping that the weather will subside. Even though Jeremy knew it was raining, he made it a point to come down to school. If you do not know the learning point of this example, go figure it out yourself and learn from this.
Attitude
If you are not attending trainings because you feel that the trainings are slack, I suggest that you can come look for me and give me pointers to improve on. I don’t need all-star players who don’t contribute to the development of the team.
If no one informs the committee your whereabouts during the holidays or school week, he/she will write a letter of explanation regarding why he/she didn’t inform anyone about their whereabouts. Poor attitude may result in consequences– pushups, suspensions or expulsion.
Teamwork
Members should have teamwork and all should volunteer to clean the store if they can because the equipment belongs to everyone. There will be a store cleanup every semester. The equipment does not belong to the Quartermaster; it belongs to every individual member.
Communication
I believe that the committee and club members should work together. If you have any suggestion, feel free to let it out because your contributions may help the club one way or another. With good communication, teammates will have a better understanding and respect with one another.
Miscellaneous
Training starts at 5pm without fail. Members should be ready and all changed 5pm sharp even if Leslie the quartermaster is not here. Unless you have lessons, group work, FYP or attachment, you do not have any reason to attend trainings late.
Training is on rain or shine. If it is raining, there will be a CCA meeting in the clubhouse (I will try to get hold on one). No weak excuses such as too much homework or its raining now. You should be able to manage your time properly and do consider about other members as well because everyone else have their assignments to complete. You are not the only one with homework to do. I know the field can be very muddy during rainy period but we need to train on the poorest condition so that one day it could be used as an advantage for us. If my memory serves me well, softball is all about getting dirty. Nobody is going home clean.
No doubt we are a recreational club. I hope there is some form of professionalism and dignity in maintaining the club. I would like to say that the future of the club is not in my hands, everyone plays a part in molding the club and I hope that the club will go on to achieve the best and be successful.
Lastly members with other CCAs other than Softball, please kindly inform me.

Another thing is that for Softball chalet, a few of us were thinking of organising a game so I need 2 more planners/video journalist (VJ) to help in the organisation and planning. Oh and lastly, thank you everyone in Axis for being such a great softball team. I feel that we have become more bonded. So hope that we will become an EVEN BETTER team to prove to other people that we are indeed awesome!
